This is one of the first few portraits that I painted. This painting simply represents the beauty of blackness. I intentionally used a darker complexion to give representation to dark-skinned women. In the media, it’s common for these women to be left out or not represented kindly, so I feel as if this painting is a declaration of how beautiful they are and how powerful their complexions are.
